During a recent trip, I had the privilege of sitting down with Australian artist Kate McMillan.
A graduate of Curtin University, McMillan began her career in Perth and played a key role in managing The Verge gallery in the early 2000's and also held solo exhibitions that were crucial to the evolution of her practice, highlighting her interdisciplinary approach that combines film, sound, sculpture, and performance.
Thirteen years ago, she relocated to London with her family and has since become a notable presence in the city's art scene. At King's College, McMillan leads courses on contemporary art and gender inequality within the creative industry. Her research intersects with her artistic practice, delving into themes such as colonial violence and its legacies, as well as the overlooked histories of women.
It was an informal, enlightening, and captivating conversation. Discover more in the complete interview below.
